Me on a hike at Giraffe Center, Nairobi.

Hi, I’m Peter.

I started OurHeartsandMinds because I know what it’s like to feel lost in the noise of your own head. For a long time, I navigated the ups and downs of anxiety and depression. At the same time, I was busy trying to make sense of why my relationships weren’t clicking the way I hoped.

I’ve always been a researcher at heart. My background is in computer science and data analysis. So I did what I do best. I started looking for answers. I wanted to understand the “why” behind our feelings and the “how” of healing.

On this site, I share what I’ve learned from both my personal journey and my research. I don’t believe in “magic fixes,” but I do believe in small, steady steps toward a better life. Whether you’re dealing with a tough breakup or just trying to find some mental peace, I’m here to share the tools and stories that helped me find my way back to myself.

When I’m not diving into research, you’ll usually find me cheering for my favorite football team or watching a documentary, constantly seeking new stories that explain the “why” behind human behavior.

My Mission

I started OurHeartsandMinds because I spent too many years feeling like I was the only one struggling to keep my head above water. Between the weight of anxiety, the fog of depression, and the messiness of trying to make relationships work, I realized that the “perfect” advice I found online didn’t actually help me in real life.

My goal is simple: to be the person I needed when I was at my lowest. I’m here to share the honest, no-filters truth about what it takes to heal, the small things that actually make a difference, and the reminder that you’re doing a lot better than you think you are.

My Core Values

  • Evidence-Based Writing – I lead with a human heart, but I root every insight in rigorous research. I believe that writing is most effective when it is supported by sound data and a structured understanding of mental wellness.
  • A Commitment to Resilience – My content is designed for long-term emotional health, not “quick fixes.” I focus on helping you build sustainable habits and mental frameworks so you can navigate future challenges with confidence and clarity.
  • Honesty – Trust is my primary currency. I am committed to absolute clarity regarding my writing process, and the boundaries of my expertise. I make a clear distinction between my personal journey and expert opinions, ensuring you always know exactly where my information comes from.
  • Narrative Integrity I prioritize ‘Lived Experience’ over pure theory. By sharing the honest realities of my own path and those of others, I provide practical insights that have been tested in real life. I believe the most helpful advice is the kind that has actually been lived.

“We aren’t aiming for a perfect life. Just a more honest one. I’m glad you’re here for the journey.” ~ Peter N. Ndungo

A Note on My Expertise

While I am deeply committed to sharing research-backed insights and my own lived experience, please remember that I am a researcher and writer, not a licensed medical professional. The content on OurHeartsandMinds is for informational and educational purposes only and should never replace the advice of a doctor or therapist.

If you are new here, I recommend starting with the Dating Advice page. This is our hero category that most people seem to like.
